Laura Sambrookes-McQuade
Laura J. Sambrookes-McQuade, SLPD, CCC-SLP, (she/her) graduated with her Doctor of Speech Language Pathology degree from Northwestern University in March 2021 and founded Aurora Pediatric Therapy and Integrative Health (APTIH) in November 2021. Dr. Sambrookes’ doctoral work focused on investigating which teaching strategies best support the health profession education student’s ability to deliver “bad news” to caregivers and their support network. She continues to present and publish about strategies to support bad news delivery, compassionate care and caregiver/provider resilience in both national and statewide conferences and publications.
APTIH’s philosophy of care includes cognitive empathy, mindfulness, mental health and strengths based evaluation and therapy services which integrate goals and priorities of individual and support network practices as an overarching ethos. Our hours are designed around the working family schedule maximizing opportunities to serve children who are available when their caregiving support system can bring them to therapy offering before school, after school, evening and Saturday hours (as needed). Our service line offerings include waiting room and treatment spaces that have been specifically curated to support an environment of healing through design. Natural light and LED lighting throughout the practice and our color palate help to lower blood pressure and calm the parasympathetic nervous system upon entry. Interprofessional practice is a core element of our intervention. We are committed to individuals and caregivers having more time to spend engaged in living life with their community and support network not engaged in lifelong therapy. APTIH offers teletherapy and face to face services. APTIH offers social groups for Autistic children preschool aged through 21 years of age and offer literacy evaluation and intervention to support children with dyslexia and concomitant reading and writing difficulties. The use of neurodevelopmental treatment techniques and sensory based interventions ensure that your child's unique and diverse needs are being addressed.
As a clinician, Dr. Sambrookes specializes in speech language and feeding for children aged birth to five. Her interest areas include: pediatric speech language disorders, late talkers, apraxia, early intervention, autism (treatment and diagnosis), sensory motor feeding disorders as well as swallowing and feeding disorders in infancy. Her practice approach is hallmarked by empathy and mindfulness practices.
Personally, Dr. Sambrookes enjoys long distance running, yoga, reading, journaling, philanthropy, and enjoying time outside with her husband, four children, and two dogs.
