Many of our member businesses and organizations are faced with a member of their staff contracting COVID-19. This educational event is designed to provide our employers with accurate information about how to proceed after an employee tests positive for COVID. Key topics to be discussed:

  • How do I best protect the rest of my staff and customers?
  • Should I require a negative COVID-19 prior to their return to work?
  • What liability pitfalls exists?

Mike DeSmedt is the Assistant Director of Environmental Health for the DuPage County Health Department leading professional staff conducting food, pool, daycare and various other inspectional activities which ensure public health. Currently, Mike has been in charge of DuPage County Health Department’s Business Resource Team which helps county businesses by educating and assisting them to operate safely during COVID-19 and within the State guidelines. In addition to running the Business Resource Team, Mike has been spending a few days a month as Incident Commander at the Community Based Testing Center.



Rebecca Boyd-Obarski's firm, Nagle, Obarski & Holzhauer, represent many local small businesses. In addition to general corporate matters, Rebecca assists clients with workplace and employment issues. She has counseled several clients as they navigated the Stay at Home orders commencing in March, the federal paid sick leave and CARES Act legislation, and the phases of Restore Illinois reopening plans, educating and assisting them as they strive to operate safely during COVID-19 and in compliance with State and County guidelines.



Kevin Courtois is Executive Director of Congressional and Public Affairs at the U.S. Chamber’s Great Lakes Regional Office. To achieve the U.S. Chamber’s public policy goals, Kevin cultivates and maintains legislative, political, media and grasstops resources throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Kevin leads the U.S. Chamber’s efforts to strengthen its relationships with Members of Congress through member businesses, associations, and local and state chambers of commerce across the region.
